MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR’S SAFETY STATEMENT

NIKAD carried out various jobs on a contract basis for multiple institutions, private individuals, public corporations, and federal and state governments.

We carry out building and civil engineering construction, airfield construction, and other heavy engineering work.

This company's uttermost aim is that all activities associated with various jobs undertaken are executed so that the health and safety of its workers are safeguarded.

In this regard, NIKAD Nigeria Limited will not only comply with all applicable safety laws but also, in addition, comply with all safety regulations for all institutions it works for.

We, however, note that the various supervisors and foremen on our different project sites shall have the particular role of ensuring that the work for which they are responsible is properly supervised and that the work practices employed are safe and efficient. Therefore, we now emphasize that safety at work is every employee's responsibility since achieving an accident-free operation involves a collection effort.

HEALTH PROGRAMMES

We also note that since our unskilled labor force is largely employed on an ad-hoc basis, weekly site meetings on safety shall be held on various project sites to teach the workers' company’s safety regulations.

One-week safety induction courses will be run for all new supervisory staff. At the same time, the company will provide safety booths, helmets, hand gloves, raincoats, etc. for use by all employees and visitors on site.

Employees shall, from time to time, be nominated for specialized courses such as first-aid crane and other machines operation, fire-fighting, defensive driving, swimming, etc at the end of these courses, they should be able to perform their duties excellently.

Finally, attendance at these safety courses will precede all other companies’ activities.

POLICY GUIDELINES

The safety policy guidelines of NEC Nigeria Limited are as follows:

  • Promotion of safety consciousness in all workers.

  • Only skilled workers shall be engaged in specialized operations

  • All workers shall be educated on the safety rules of our various clients

  • Provision of personal protective clothing such as safety shoes, boots, head helmets, hand gloves, eye goggles, etc for work on site.

  • Workers traveling to different work sites shall be conveyed to the site in an appropriate vehicle driven by statutory licensed drivers.

  • Encourage all the workers to report all accidents

SAFETY OFFICER

The duties of the safety officer are:

  • The safety officer shall conduct regular safety meetings at work sites and take minutes of such meetings

  • He shall investigate potential hazards at the workplace, whether or not they are drawn to his attention, and also examine the causes of accidents at the site

  • He shall investigate complaints from workers relating to matters affecting their health, safety, and welfare at work.

  • He shall report to the management of the company all such. complaints received by him.

  • Also, inspect all types of equipment to see that they are in good and safe working conditions

COMPANY’S SAFETY REGULATIONS

NEC Nigeria Limited shall enforce all safety laws in existence, including the following: -

  • The Factory Decree No. 16 of 1987

  • Mineral Oil Safety Regulations of 1987

  • To buttress the laws, the company’s safety regulations are:

  • There shall be no drinking of alcohol during official working hours

  • Drugs can be taken if dispensed by competent persons

  • There shall no be horseplay during working hours

  • For proper safety, personal protective equipment must be used for work, as may be required.

  • Workers are to report all accidents and near-misses safely.

SAFETY INCENTIVE/REVIEW

NEC Nigeria Limited will run an annual safety incentive scheme involving staff. The best worker in various fields will receive the award. To this end, the safety performance record of each staff member will be reviewed quarterly and properly documented. The summarized safety report will indicate those to receive the award, and it will further form an important part of staff assessment.
